Coaching is a unique process in which a trained professional partners with you - the client - to help you discover what you truly want and break through what may be getting in your way. It empowers you to set and achieve practical goals that keep you moving toward your ideal life.
The International Coaching Federation defines coaching this way: "Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential." |
How is Coaching Different than Other Services? |
Coaching is NOT:
A coach will NEVER tell you what to do or give you advice. That's not coaching. A coach is NOT the subject matter expert on your life. You are. A coach will NEVER judge your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, or actions. A coach can help you discover what's true for you. A coach supports you as you take action to move your life from adequate to IDEAL. A coach KNOWS you have all the answers (or can discover the answers that are waiting for you). By asking the right QUESTIONS at the right time, a coach helps you connect with your own truths. With coaching, YOU have the power. YOU are in charge. |

How Does Coaching Work? |
Clients typically meet with their coach once a week, usually by phone or online. Since coaching works extremely well by phone, geography is not a factor.
(I have found that coaching my clients once a week on the phone is extremely effective. Other coaches may have other arrangements with their clients.) During your initial sessions, you and your coach will get to know each other. The coach may offer exercises or assessments so you can gain clarity around your goals and values, identify any roadblocks in your way, and determine where you'd like to focus your coaching. Your coach will provide ongoing support in a safe, non-judgmental, and confidential space. At every stage of the coaching process, you are in charge. You set the agenda. As you meet regularly with your coach, they'll ask you thought-provoking and sometimes challenging questions to help you discover what's true for you. When appropriate, you will create action steps or "to do list" items that align with your goals and you'll keep yourself accountable for them. Meaningful change takes time and consistent effort. The longer you work with your coach and build that relationship, the more success you will see for yourself. This is why coaches tend to offer packages of sessions and not single appointments.
