Reading Ideas

If you're like me, you may not always have time or energy to search for a good book. And sorting through "self-help" books can sometimes feel like a real drag. So, to help save time, here are some powerful, accessible reads that have had a big impact on me and my clients.

All of these books are readily available online or at your local independent bookstore. Enjoy!

An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth, by Col. Chris Hadfield

As a life coach and a huge nerd for space exploration (have you seen my logo?), this book was an absolute home run for me. Through thrilling and interesting anecdotes, retired astronaut Col. Chris Hadfield explores what it looks like to live your best life while pursuing your dreams.

Fun fact: I met him! Also, he sings. Oh, and check out his amazing Ted Talk about fear.

The Big Leap, by Gay Hendricks

How might you be holding yourself back from success, abundance, and joy? This powerful little book is packed with big ideas to help you raise your consciousness, move through your fear, and step boldly into your Zone of Genius.

Start Now!, by Kate Neckel

Kate Neckel's playfully-designed, interactive journal is a warm hug for your pent-up, creative inner child. Like a soothing cup of tea on a rainy afternoon, it can help you get unstuck and start realizing all your worthy ideas. What are you waiting for?

Bird by Bird, by Anne Lamott

Hilarious, neurotic, and profoundly relatable. Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird should be required reading for all creatives. Whether you're a writer or not, this book is full of quotable wisdom, "ah-ha" moments, and practical advice for anyone looking to establish a creative practice for themselves.

The Artist's Way, by Julia Cameron

The Artist's Way has been helping to unblock artists and creatives for decades, and with good reason. From morning pages to taking yourself on creative solo dates, this interactive book guides you through a powerful process to reconnect with your inner creative.

On Writing, by Stephen King

The king of terror himself, Stephen King, invites you into a (non-scary) experience as he shares both his autobiographical journey to success and practical advice for aspiring writers. Even if you're not a writer, this is a very cool read with a lot of helpful insights.

Yes, And, by Kelly Leonard & Tom Yorton

Building on decades of corporate comedy experience, Yes, And, shares with business leaders and entrepreneurs how the foundational principles of improv comedy can have a powerful, positive impact on any organization.

As a veteran improvisor and workshop facilitator myself, I have seen such transformations first-hand with my corporate clients. Let's chat.

Energy Leadership, by Bruce D. Schneider

Bruce Schneider is the founder of iPEC, where I completed my training to become a certified professional coach. This book walks the reader through iPEC's foundational concepts using an engaging story of corporate (and personal) transformation.

The framework presented in the book is deeply powerful and central to a lot of my own coaching with my clients. It's definitely worth a read if you're interested in learning more about Energy Leadership.

Also, feel free to drop me a note!

Please note: I was not paid or approached for any of the above book endorsements. All recommendations are genuine. :)
